God to be BLESSED

1Peter 1:3-5

Introduction:

This is a simple expository lesson concerning the blessings we have from God as mentioned by Peter in vs. 3-5.

1. Mercy

a. When we deserved condemnation, He offered us forgiveness.

2. Begotten us again

a. In one sense, all are His offspring by creation…

1. He is the father of our spirits…Hebrews 12:9

2. Acts 17:24-29

b. Because of SIN, become 'child of the devil' -- cp. John 8:

c. Born again -- John 3:3-5

1. Spirit -- through the use of the gospel, the sword of the Spirit, Eph. 6:17

2. when obey the gospel - 1 Pet. 1:22-23

3. baptized -- Gal. 3:26-27;

3. Living HOPE through / by resurrection of Jesus

a. HOPE -

1. Strong desire + expectation

2. Eph. 4:4 - ONE hope

3. 1 Pet. 1:21 - such hope is not in us, but in GOD

4. Heb. 6:18-19 - hence it is 'an anchor' for the soul

5. 1 Thess. 5:8 - hence it is the 'helmet of salvation'

b. Hope in the resurrection

1. Resurrection of Jesus – through such WE know that God will raise us also, Eph. 1:19-22

2 Hope in OUR resurrection …., 1 Cor. 15: 1 Thess. 4:

3 Hope in our SPIRITUAL resurrection… Rom. 6:, etc.

c. SUCH is a PURIFYING HOPE

1. 1 Jn. 3:3 - have this hope -- purify self…

2. 1 Pet. 1:13-16, this is the hope of obedient, holy children…

4. Inheritance

a. inheritance because are His children…

b. incorruptible…

c. undefiled..

d. fadeth not away

e. reserved IN heaven …

5. Kept by His power - through faith.

a. God will provide -

1. 'providence' - not tempted above what able - 1 Cor. 10:

2. HAS provided much -- but people not use it!

a. lady on roof - refuses offer of help saying God will save her. He sent the boat!

d. Prayer & fellowship with God

1. We are to TRUST Him -

2. Problems with our faith!

a. Will be tested .. cp. Vs. 7

b. What can happen TO our faith …

Conclusion:

In Christ we are redeemed / forgiven and brought back to a right relationship with God. In such we look forward to our eternal fellowship and glory. Such is available to ALL who will accept it – and ONLY to those who accept it (John 14:6; Mark 16:15-16). Will you not join us in such blessings?
